Google Earth direkt im Browser
Der Suchmaschinengigant Google macht seine erfolgreiche 3D-Mapping-Software "Google Earth" jetzt auch ohne Zusatzapplikation verfügbar. Das entsprechende Browserplugin steht ab sofort zum Download bereit.
Das Plugin läuft mit Internet Explorer (ab 6.0) und Firefox (nur 2.x) und ist nur wenige Kilobyte groß. Herunterladen und direkt im Browser installieren kann man es nur auf der US-Website für Google Earth (siehe Infobox). Für Entwickler hat Google auch eine JavaScript-API (Schnittstelle zur Anwendungsprogrammierung) veröffentlicht, die es Website-Besitzern ermöglicht ihre Google-Maps-Interfaces auf 3D-Darstellung umzustellen.
